Extended IT Glossary in Swahili Released!

An extended Swahili glossary has been released under Creative Commons Shared Alike. Download the new glossary in PO format here
The new glossary has been developed by populating the existing glossaryof 750 terms and using Translation Memory from the existing translation of OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 and Firefox 1.0.3
IT+46 in WSIS

Building on the success of the ICT4D Platform in 2003, the ICT4all Exhibition in Tunis will be the most important parallel event of the second phase of the Word Summit of Information Society (WSIS). IT+46 in joint cooperation with IDRC will present innovative ideas and practical solutions in ICT for development. Our testbed includes: Voice over IP with Asterisk using SIP and IAX, A complete Wireless Distribution System based on OpenWRT and the launching of a Localization Resources Site.

The second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will take place in Tunis from the 16th to 18th of November. As part of the Word Summit a parallel event will take place from the 14th to the 19th of November 2005: ICT4all.
IT46 will be presenting some innovative ideas and practical solutions in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC). More information of the demos can be found at ict4d@idrc Demos website.
Kipot in Amharic
Published: 27 Aug 2005IT +46 is now hosting an Ethiopian localization effort using Kipot in Amharic. Amharic is one of Ethiopia's 84 living languages and is spoken by 17 million people. Amharic uses the script Geez which is included in Unicode.
Amharic is one of Ethiopia's national languages and the working language of the government.
OpenOffice.org 2.0 ready for Swahili
Published: 23 Aug 2005OpenOffice.org 2.0 will support Swahili!. The multi-platform open source suite OpenOffice.org will include all the necessary changes to include a full Swahili translation. A test version based on milestone 124 under GNU/Linux is available in our download area. Acks goes to Ivo (ihi@ooo) who kindly took care of some of our patches in the very last minute.
